220 reflecting surfaces are collectively organized and individually adjusted to project 220 sunsets into the north-east oriented Loggia of the Villa Medici. The 31st of May, 220 mirrors shifted the Cosmos toward the Villa, as people witnessed the first ever sunset this space had known for 430 years.
The installation was conceived alongside a study on our cultural relationship to energy, as an allusion to the infrastructural landscape emerging in the Mediterranean’s backcountry. It stood as a phenomenological experiment of the contemporary energetic city which territory extends far from its formal limits. As we were focusing on the production of architecture in this landscape, and on the perspectives we could bring to it, we followed two intuitional paths for 500 soli’s conception:

In October 2017 Alessandra et Odysseas extract 4 tons of earth from the gardens of Villa Medici. In parallel, from Septembre 2017 to February 2018 they regularly escape from Rome to survey the Agro Pontino, the flat countryside 60 km south of Rome.

The places of production are distant and left to the discretion of the technicians who only legislate on their rules of the game. Here we examine the architectural capacity of the new technological condition of our energy and perhaps thus give it a happy and light breath.
Buckmister Fuller patented aluminum and polycarbonate structures, and dreamed of covered glass cities. «Your Private Sky» - frantic vision of progress (unrealized).
The countryside invents a net to protect itself from hail. Harvesting lean, it weaves it thiner for (less than 5% shading), then it colors it, (positively photoselectively). The campaign invents, tests, corrects, tests and improves, experiments, scale 1, space - unbridled progress (in progress). Everything changes, fast, noise, and no time for anyone to contemplate, to look for a vision or a reference. For Louis Kahn the Man remained changed when foresigning that light was white and not yellow and that shadows were black and not blue. These nets are a design drawn to the photon, specular and colored. Positively photoselective at 5% shade.

Mediterraneo is a territorial corpus and a performative methodology of work, holding our production into one distinctive scope of study. It questions the bounds between energy, climate’s identities and Mediterranean habitability.
Mediterraneo is a process of exploration. It starts with an extensive use of cartographic tools, historical data, narrations, intuitive “correspondences”. It develops into drifts, interviews and photographic or video reports.
Mediterraneo is a project-maker. From a growing corpus of situations hold in a comprehensive whole it stands as material for distinct projects.

“Beyond Boredom or Suffocation» is a on-going series of models and drawing: formal investigations giving an aesthetic perspective to substances of energy and nature: a pendant to “Mediterraneo”.
The objective is to elaborate formal language and strategic, yet lyric action, to question the aim of architecture within our current systemic crisis, and its address : Should we think architecture as a human, elemental, or natural attribute ?
